Cast and crew members for Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series divined an update for season two of the series Thursday morning at SDCC. The cast briefly reminisced about season one of the series, which adapted author Rick Riordan’s novel The Lightning Thief, before setting their sights on a new adventure: The Sea of Monsters. Sea of Monsters will see Percy (Walker Scobell) and his friends Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) embark on a maritime quest for the Golden Fleece, the only object that can restore the fading protection spell of Camp Half-Blood, the world’s only true safe haven for demigods. The upcoming adaptation constitutes the second attempt to translate Riordan’s stories of demigod adventure to the screen after the infamous 2013 movie, which Riordan himself has disavowed for its inaccuracy to his original 2006 novel.
Present at the panel along with the series’ Golden Trio were Dior Goodjohn, who plays Clarisse, and Daniel Deemer, who portrays Percy’s cyclops half-brother Tyson, a new character who will make his debut from the Sea of Monsters novel. SDCC audiences were treated to a brief look at Deemer’s performance as part of a new trailer, along with a behind-the-curtain teaser depicting Grover actor Aryan Simhadri’s preparation for the adaptation of a particular fan-favorite scene involving a wedding dress (if you’ve read the book, you’ll know which one we’re talking about).
Outside of the panel, aforementioned series author Rick Riordan announced the casting of two other demigods: Nico di Angelo, played by Levi Chrisopulos, and his sister Bianca, played by Olive Abercrombie. As neither di Angelo sibling appears in The Sea of Monsters, it’s safe to assume that an adaptation of the third book in the series, The Titan’s Curse, is well underway.
The new teaser is available below. The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere on December 10th on Disney Plus.
