John Wick fans, get ready, the first official trailer for The Continental has been released! The Hollywood Reporter notes that the three-part limited series, officially titled The Continental: From the World of John Wick, is set around 40 years prior to all events in the John Wick feature films. The spin-off series comes from director and executive producer Albert Hughes (Alpha, The Book of Eli). The project from Lionsgate has had an extensive development process, as it originally began development in 2018. The series is written and executive produced by Shawn Simmons (Wayne, Now We’re talking), Greg Coolidge (Employee of the Month, The Turkey Bowl) and Kirk Ward (Forrest Gump, Tenacious D). Hughes directs episodes one and three while Charlotte Brandstrom (Jupiter’s Legacy, Madam Secretary) takes on episode two.
The highly anticipated limited series will, according to The Hollywood Reporter, focus “on events surrounding a hotel for assassins in New York City.” Some star-studded names are featured in The Continental, Colin Woodell (I Love America, The Purge) will portray hotel owner Winston Scott and audiences can even expect to see Mel Gibson (Braveheart, The Patriot) in the limited series. Gibson will portray a character called Cormac, the hotel’s current manager and also an underworld kingpin.
The official description for The Continental reads, “The three-part event will explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins centerpiece of the John Wick universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.”
Audiences can watch the premiere of part one on Peacock on September 22. Part two follows on September 29, and part three on October 6.
