According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peacock has released a new docuseries unraveling the intricate lies of former Grey’s Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch (True Blood, The Vampire Diaries). As the series Anatomy of Lies was released onto the streaming platform on October 15, 2024, Finch posted her preemptive thoughts to Instagram alongside the release of the documentary.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anatomy of Lies is a three-part series set to dissect Finch’s false claims and actions in the context of the entertainment business. According to mxdwn, Finch started the initial lie back in 2007 that she contracted a rare type of bone cancer, which she later admitted to CNN was a complete lie. Finch explained that after undergoing knee replacement surgery, she turned to lying as a coping mechanism once the attention from her recovery died down.
Finch said, “It was one hell of a recovery period and then it was dead quiet because everyone naturally was like ‘Yay! You’re healed.’ But it was dead quiet. And I had no support and went back to my old maladaptive coping mechanism — I lied and made something up because I needed support and attention and that’s the way I went after it. That’s where that lie started — in that silence” via mxdwn.
From Finch’s initial lie, her situation of untruthful claims seemed to snowball. The Hollywood Reporter recalls that Finch later claimed that she lost a kidney and had an abortion. Mxdwn recalls that Finch also claimed her brother died of suicide in 2019, which was also untrue.
In her Instagram post, Finch had the following to say: “I’ve given no one any reason to believe a word I say. I lied about so much; things so many people have been devastated by in real life. ‘I’m sorry’ feels like the smallest words compared to what I’ve done, yet they are the truest. I trapped myself in the addiction of lies, betraying and traumatizing my closest friends, family and colleagues.”
Finch continues her post by apologizing to the people in her life she has hurt and pleads towards actions of accountability.
