According to the Hollywood Reporter, Peacock has given a series order to a new horror thriller series from popular horror director and icon James Wan (the Conjuring franchise, the Saw franchise). Wan will serve as an executive producer for the untitled show with Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone, Chicago Fire) set to write the script.
Wan’s new show is purportedly inspired by influential horror author Robert McCammon’s (Swan Song, The Wolf’s Hour) hit 1988 novel, Stinger, and has been in development since early March (at one point operating under the title of “Teacup”). As written by the Hollywood Reporter, the series follows a diverse and dissimilar group of people living on a ranch who must set aside their differences and band together in order to fight off a dangerous, mysterious threat.
Stinger, the novel which inspired the new show, takes place over a twenty-four hour period and tells the story of an evil creature who descends upon the fictional town of Inferno, Texas, a crime-riddled community with deep racial divisions. However, things only get worse when the people of Inferno choose to retaliate against the creature, sending the small town into a downward spiral of hatred, destruction, and violence.
The show’s first episode will be directed by E.L. Katz (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Swamp Thing), who is also serving as an executive producer for the series alongside Wan, McCammon, McCulloch, Michael Clear (Malignant, Mortal Kombat), and Rob Hackett (Archive 81, The Magic Order). Atomic Monster and Universal Studio Group’s UCP will be producing the upcoming series.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, UCP president Beatrice Springborn claimed, “when you bring together James Wan, Ian McCulloch, E.L. Katz, and a bestselling novel by Robert McCammon, you’ve got all the ingredients for an incredible series. We’re ecstatic to partner with Peacock to bring this thrill ride of a show to their audience.”
