Peacock has officially ordered a live-action adaptation of “Dungeon Crawler Carl.” According to Deadline, the series based on Matt Dinniman’s (“Operation Bounce House,” “A Parade of Horribles,” “The Gate of the Feral Gods”) popular LitRPG novel series has received a straight-to-series order from the streamer.
The adaptation is being written for television by Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok, Cowboy Bebop, The Mandalorian) and produced by Seth MacFarlane’s (Family Guy, American Dad!, Ted) Fuzzy Door banner alongside Universal Global Television. Dinniman will also serve as a co-executive producer on the series.
Dungeon Crawler Carl takes place after an alien invasion wipes out much of humanity and forces the remaining survivors to compete in a deadly intergalactic game show. The story follows Coast Guard veteran Carl, who finds himself navigating a dangerous underground world alongside Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend’s award-winning show cat. Together, the pair must battle monsters, aliens, artificial intelligence, and other survivors in order to stay alive while entertaining audiences across the galaxy.
The series marks the latest adaptation of Dinniman’s bestselling book franchise, which first began as a self-published project in 2019 before growing into a major success among fantasy and gaming audiences. The novels have developed a dedicated fanbase over the years, with readers mentioning their love of the dark humor, action, and role-playing game-inspired storytelling. According to Deadline, Dinniman announced the series pickup on social media and expressed excitement about working with Yost, MacFarlane, and the Fuzzy Door team.
Yost will executive produce alongside MacFarlane, Erica Huggins (The Dark Tower, The Spy Who Dumped Me, Son of the Mask), and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald (The Orville, Threshold, The Attic Door). Universal Global Television and Fuzzy Door will produce the series.
No casting announcements or premiere date have been revealed for Dungeon Crawler Carl at this time.
