According to Deadline Peacock has greenlit a new crime drama series titled Superfakes, which comes from Emmy Award-winning showrunner Alice Ju (Beef, Poker Face). The series follows a small-time Chinatown counterfeit dealer who risks her life in the black market to secure a better future for her family. Ju will also serve as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer.
The series is produced by A24 and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, with Josh Safdie (The Curse, Telemarketer) and Benny Safdie (The Curse, Uncut Gems) also executive producing. Howard Klein (The Office, Parks and Recreation) and Olivia Gerke (Fantasmas) join the team as executive producers, alongside Ronald Bronstein (Ren Faire, Thank You Very Much) and Eli Bush (What We Do in the Shadows, Dispatches from Elsewhere). This marks another major project for Ju, following her Emmy win in 2023 for Beef, which was honored as Outstanding Limited Series.
In addition to Beef, Ju’s credits include Poker Face, where she was a consulting producer, and Russian Doll, where she served as a producer. She is also recognized for her writing work on The Other Two for Max Original.
The partnership with UCP and A24, along with the Safdie brothers’ involvement, promises a gripping exploration of crime, ambition, and the pursuit of the American dream. With Ju at the helm, Superfakes is expected to bring a unique voice to the genre, blending sharp storytelling with intense character development.
Ju is represented by UTA and 3 Arts. As the series moves forward, it will be exciting to see how this collaboration unfolds, given Ju’s track record and the star-studded producing team behind it.
