Peacock Enlists Josh Berman For ‘Grimm’ Movie Revival With Original Series Creators

Known for its unique blend of crime drama, supernatural horror, and fantasy, Grimm, is making a return as a movie, sources confirmed to Deadline. The reboot of the 2011 NBC series is in development at Peacock with Josh Berman (Drop Dead Diva) penning the script and serving as executive producer alongside the original series’ creative team, including co-creators David Greenwalt (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Jim Kouf (Angel), and Hazy Mills Productions’ Sean Hayes(Crowded, Hot in Clevland) and Todd Milliner(The history of Comedy, Sean Saves The World).

While the movie’s exact plot remains under wraps, it is expected to include connections to the original series while introducing new mythology and characters. The project aims to appeal to both die-hard Grimm fans and newcomers. If successful, the movie could serve as a launchpad for a larger franchise, sources reveal to Deadline.

The original Grimm series followed Portland detective Nick Burkhardt (A Million Little Things, 13 Hours) as David Giuntol, who learns he is a Grimm, a guardian who maintains balance between humanity and mythological creatures. The show premiered in 2011 and quickly became a breakout hit, despite its Friday night time slot, running for six seasons on NBC.

The series enjoyed impressive international success and became a mainstay among NBC’s highest-rated scripted series. Following its conclusion, NBC briefly explored a spinoff centered on a female Grimm, but that project did not materialize, according to Deadline.

A New Chapter with Familiar Faces  here comes Josh Berman joins the Grimm reboot following a successful 15-year run at Sony Pictures TV, where he created Drop Dead Diva, which aired for six seasons on Lifetime. Berman also co-created The Mob Doctor, Notorious, and Murder House Flip. His production company also worked on Gordita Chronicles. Greenwalt and Kouf remain key figures in the Grimm world, with Greenwalt represented by IAG and Kouf by WME, Deadline reports.

Berman’s involvement signals a new era for the Grimm franchise, with a fresh yet familiar vision for both loyal viewers and newcomers alike.

Looking Ahead with The Grimm movie reboot represents both a nod to the past and an opportunity to expand its universe. With an experienced creative team and a growing fan base, the project could bring new life to this beloved supernatural series, potentially ushering in a new franchise, Deadline suggests.
