Fans of Peacock’s dramatization of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air finally have a date for its final season. The streaming service announced that the fourth and final season of Bel-Air will premiere on Monday, November 24. The series was first announced in 2020 and premiered in 2022.
The fresh take on the popular ’90s sitcom explored Will Smith’s journey from West Philadelphia to the pristine streets of Bel-Air, California. While the original was set as a comedic sitcom with some dramatic moments, this series reimagined the fish-out-of-water story through a dramatic lens. Based on a fan-film trailer concept created by Morgan Cooper (Yay, U Shoot Videos?), the series has lasted three seasons, with a unique coming-of-age story.
“At its core, Bel-Air is a celebration of the black experience through the perspective of a family,” Copper said in a Deadline article in 2021. “We have stayed true to the original premise of the legacy series – Will’s life is turned upside down after he is forced to leave West Philly and lands in Bel-Air with its gated mansions and wealth; however, our new series brings Will and the Banks family into the world as we know it now. It’s been incredible to bring these iconic characters to life when you tap them into the cultural pulse of our time. The series was the fabric of so many of our upbringings, tied to memories and the joy of seeing ourselves represented on TV, so it is important to us to pay respect to its legacy.”
Season four’s official synopsis reads:
In season four of Peacock’s “Bel-Air,” Will tries to balance the fun and excitement of senior year with the expectations that have brought him to this moment. Carlton tests his own resolve as he deals with the fallout of some very big decisions that could threaten his future. Together, both boys will help each other through this pivotal time in their lives. An unexpected power shift will threaten the brotherhood between Phil and Geoffrey, whose loyalties to the Banks family will be tested. Viv struggles with reinventing herself as she looks at motherhood from a different perspective. It’s Ashley’s freshman year in high school and she’s working through a rebellious phase but quickly learns that the status quo may no longer serve her. Hilary goes on a journey of self-exploration.
The series saw newcomer Jabari Banks (Bad Genius, American Dream: The 21 Savage Story) take on the role that launched the real Will Smith (iRobot, King Richard) into stardom. He’s accompanied by a standout cast, including Adrian Holmes (V Wars, 19-2) and Cassandra Freeman (A Working Mom, Inside Man) as Will’s aunt and uncle, Vivian and Phillip Banks, respectively; Olly Sholotan (Run Hide Fight), Coco Jones (Vampires v. The Bronx, Let It Shine), and Akira Akbar (This Is Us, Captain Marvel) as his counsins Carlton, Hilary, and Ashley; and, Jimmy Akingbola (Sorry, I Didn’t Know, In the Long Run) as Geoffrey, Phillip’s expertly skilled housegaurdian, Jordan L. Jones (South Central, Mainstream) as Jazz, and Simone Joy Jones (The Son of No One, The Chair) as Lisa, Will’s on-again-off-again love interest.
All will be explained come November when the final season arrives only on Peacock.
