Peacock announced on Monday that they have reached a deal to bring the upcoming John Wick prequel series The Continental to the streaming service, as noted by The Verge. The three-episode upcoming series will premiere in 2023.
Peacock described the upcoming series in a press release.
“Premiering exclusively on Peacock in 2023, The Continental will explore the origin story and inner workings of the exclusive Continental Hotel, a centerpiece of the John Wick Universe which serves as a refuge for assassins.”
Kelly Campbell, President of Peacock and Direct-To-Consumer, released a statement on the deal to bring The Continental to Peacock via the press release.
“The John Wick films have become a global phenomenon, are among the most watched titles on Peacock and we are thrilled and honored to partner with Lionsgate to extend this incredible franchise,” Campbell said. “We understand the value of a global franchise and Val Boreland and team knew that by bringing this special event series to Peacock and putting the full power of NBCUniversal behind it, the premiere of The Continental will be the streaming event of the year.”
The upcoming series will star Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant), newcomer Ayomide Adegun, Peter Greene (The Mask), Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon), Ben Robson (Animal Kingdom), Hubert Point-Du Jour (The Good Lord Bird), Jessica Allain (The Laundromat), Mishel Prada (Fear The Walking Dead: Passage), and Nhung Kate (The Housemaid). Greg Coolidge (Employee Of The Month) and Kirk Ward (Wayne) will serve as writers and showrunners. They will also executive produce alongside Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli), Basil Iwanyk (John Wick: Chapter 2), Erica Lee (John Wick), Chad Stahelski (John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum), Derek Kolstad (Nobody), David Leitch (Atomic Blonde), Shawn Simmons (Now We’re Talking), Paul Wernick (Zombieland: Double Tap), Rhett Reese (Deadpool), and Marshall Persinger (The Alienist). Hughes will direct the first and third episodes while Charlotte Brandstrom (The Outsider) will direct the second.
