A Hostel series is currently in development at Peacock with Eli Roth (Night Always Comes, Jimmy and Stiggs) as the writer and director, bringing this horrific series from a film to the small screen, according to TVLine. Paul Giamatti (Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, A Mouthful of Air) will be starring in the new series. Giamatti’s role is being kept under wraps for now.
Roth directed and wrote the first two Hostel films, which were released in 2005 and 2007, according to TVLine. Roth will also executive produce the series along with Chris Briggs (I Remember You, Jason Lives: The Making of Friday) and Mike Fleiss (Fare Thee Well: Rainbows Are Real, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning).
According to TVLine, the series’s plot remains a secret. The original Hostel franchise followed innocent tourists who were kidnapped by an Elite Haunting Club, a group of wealthy clientele who paid to torture and murder civilians for sport. This takes place in an Eastern European city, which is unknown to the viewers. During the first film, Jay Hernandez (The Long Game, You’re Not Alone) was the leader of the Elite group along with Lauren German (Made for Each Other, What We Do is Secret), Bijou Phillips (Chelsea On The Rocks What We Do is Secret), and Heather Matarazzo (The Zombie Wedding, Smothered By Mothers). Both movies collectively earned $116 million at the box office with a budget of just $4.8 million and $10.2 million, respectively.
According to TVLine, Giamatti recently starred and is Emmy-nominated for the seventh season of Netflix’s Black Mirror. The four-time Emmy nominee took home an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries in 2008 for his role in HBO’s John Adams. He will be seen starring in Paramount+’s Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which debuted its new trailer exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con last month.
