According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Bettany (Legion, Priest), who played Vision in the Marvel Universe, discusses his return as his character for an untitled Vision series. During the premiere of Here, Bettany was interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter and revealed the news of the upcoming show, which will be released on Disney+ in 2026. As Bettany stated, the show will start production next year: “ We’re cooking up something that I’m really excited about.” He jokes that he cannot disclose more details as “snitches end up in ditches.”
Bettany first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he fell in love with the Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen (Love & Death, Oldboy). In the movie Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos destroyed him. He returned through the Scarlet Witches’ magic (as well as her grief) in the series Wandavision. However, by the end of the series, the White Vision flew away elsewhere and the other Vision disappeared.
As stated by The Hollywood Reporter, James Spader’s (The Office, Pretty In Pink) Ultron, a sentient created by Tony Stark, will return in the untitled Vision television series acting as a shield robot. Like in the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ultron will turn against humanity despite the original intent. The showrunner will be Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys).
Before he can start filming for the untitled Vision series, he will continue working on the film Here with Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey, The Gentlemen), Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone, Pride & Prejudice), Tom Hanks (Toy Story, You’ve Got Mail) and Robin Wright (Wonder Woman, Forrest Gump). The film will be single-shot and focuses on many generations of families that are in one room.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Bettany expresses he is impressed with the one-of-a-kind-script: “As I’m reading it, I’m beginning to figure out that I’m playing Tom Hanks’ dad, and there’s this thing going on in my head going, ‘How’s that going to work? They’ll figure it out!’ And Bob Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Cast Away) figured it out. And then we got to play and have so much fun chewing out my son Tom Hanks. He’s America’s dad and I’m America’s granddad.”
Bettany was also asked about his impressions of Wanda’s nemesis Agatha and her TV show Agatha All Along. Kathryn Hahn (How to Lose a guy in 10 days, Step Brothers) stars as Agatha Harkness in the Wandavision spin-off.
“I love it. I love it and I’m so proud of [showrunner] Jac Schaeffer (The Hustle, Black Widow) and I am going to watch again because there’s so much for me to learn moving forward into my contribution,” Bettany said per The Hollywood Reporter interview.
