The Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, has added quite the dreamy actor to the cast. According to Deadline, actor Patrick Dempsey, known for his work as Doctor Shepard, aka “McDreamy” on Grey’s Anatomy, will join Dexter: Original Sin as a series regular. The actor will be playing the captain of the Miami homicide department.
Dexter: Original Sin is a prequel to the series Dexter. The new series follows the titular character in his younger years as he transforms into the serial killer that viewers know well. The character of Dexter will be played by Patrick Gibson, who follows in the footsteps of the original Dexter, Michael C. Hall. The cast also includes Christian Slater, Molly Brown, Christina Milan, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, and now according to Deadline, Dempsey.
Dempsey will be playing the role of Aaron Spencer. He is the captain of the Miami Metro Homicide Department. The character also has a relationship that spans several decades with the character Harry Morgan, who will be played by Slater.
Upon the announcement of Dempsey’s casting in the new series, Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios spoke about the excitement centerting the latest casting. Deadline reported that the CEO said, “Patrick Dempsey is a beloved actor who is internationally known for the iconic characters he has played and his performances.” McCarthy continues, “We are thrilled to have him join our all-star cast of Dexter: Original Sin, the highly anticipated origin story of the franchise.”
Dexter: Original Sin is a 10- Episode drama series that takes place in Miami. Viewers will watch as the story unfolds of how the student Dexter, becomes the serial killer Dexter. When he is unable to control his bloodthirsty urges, he meets Harry, who teaches Dexter a way to kill people who they both deem deserving of death; and they do it all under the Miami Police Department’s noses.
Dexter: Original Sin has already begun production in Miami, there is yet to be any announcement of premiere dates or post-production timeline.
