Paramount Network’s drama series Yellowstone reached another milestone with its last episode of season four. Aired on January 2, the finale of season four became the most-watched episode for the series to date, via Comicbook. The finale drew 9.3 million viewers in live and same day numbers, nearly doubling the 5.2 million viewership of season three’s finale.
Season four of Yellowstone has proven its incredible popularity. Before the finale, the premiere of this season was the most-viewed episode of the series with 8 million viewers. The final episode also broke the rating record, with 1.9 million people in the 18-49 demographic tuning in to watch on Sunday night. Comicbook suggests that Yellowstone‘s finale reached a total of 11 million viewers on its first night if including the CMT simulcast and repeat numbers. There is a sensational surge in viewers, considering that the premiere episode of the whole series attracted less than 3 million viewers.
Executives in the industry expressed enthusiasm for Yellowstone‘s commercial performance. “Yellowstone continues to shatter records with more than 11 million viewers tuning into the season finale, proving we’ve hit a cultural nerve – from the center of the country to each of the coasts – and still have lots of room to grow on linear,” said Chris McCarthy, president, and CEO, ViacomCBS Media Networks. “Our strategy to franchise Yellowstone into a universe of series to fuel growth for Paramount+ is already exceeding expectations with 1883 and Mayor of Kingstown proving to be two of the top titles.”
The popularity easily transforms into industry supports. Cole Hauser (High Incident), who plays Rip in the show, hinted at the renewal of season five. Coupm reported that the fifth season has been renewed with a projected broadcast date set for November 13, 2022. However, the official announcement has yet to be made.
The series stars Kevin Costner (JFK, The Bodyguard), Wes Bentley (American Beauty), Kelly Reilly (Eden Lake), Luke Grimes (American Sniper), Gil Birmingham (The Twilight Saga), and Hauser. The show is available to stream on Paramount +.
