Deadline reports that Star Trek: Discovery will end after season five which premieres in early 2024 on Paramount+. It is currently the longest-running original drama series on the streaming service and, after the end of Picard, will be the final CBS All Access series. Paramount+ will be have yearlong celebrations and appearances at events to honor the series. The Star Trek franchise has five current series’.
The series first premiered on CBS’ broadcast network before going exclusively to streaming in 2017. The series helped the launch of CBS All Access as it was the first commissioned original series on the streamer. This choice to send a series from one of its most famous IPs to the fledgling streamer instead of the flagship broadcast network surprised audiences and critics.
Season one also aired on CBS as contingency programming in the fall of 2020 due to the pandemics effects on the series’ production.
Season five of Star Trek: Discovery will follow Sonequa Martin-Green’s (The Walking Dead, Holiday Rush) Captain Burnham and the crew of the USS Discovery trying to solve a mystery that takes them on an adventure through the gallery to find a hidden ancient power. Along with Martin-Green, season five stars Blu Del Barrio as Adira, Callum Keith Rennie (Normal, The Firm) as Rayner, David Ajala (Falling Water, Kill Command) as Cleveland “Book” Booker, Doug Jones (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water) as Saru, Wilson Cruz (Joyride, Coffee Date) as Dr. Hugh Culber, Mary Wiseman (Longmire, Baskets) as Sylvia Tilly, and Anthony Rapp (Rent, Dazed and Confused) as Paul Staments.
