Paramount+ Renews ‘iCarly’ Revival For Second Season

A second season of the iCarly revival has been picked up by Paramount+, according to The Hollywood ReporterA sequel to the Nickelodeon 2007-2012 hit show, the iCarly revival series debuted on the platform on June 17.

According to Brian Robbins, the Viacom CBS kids and family chief, the sequel series has performed immensely well on Paramount+, a network that was rebranded from CBS All Access in March.

“We knew we were going to do a reboot of iCarly, it just took us a while to put it together. Once we knew we had it going, we licensed just a season or two of iCarly to Netflix and it exploded with new kids discovering it for the first time, and fans who grew up on it rediscovered it,” Robbins said. “The demand for the new show was at such a fever pitch by the time [the new show] launched that it propelled iCarly to be, if not the most successful show on Paramount+, one of the most successful shows,” via The Hollywood Reporter

Similar to its original series, iCarly follows Miranda Cosgrove’s (Drake and Josh) Carly Shay as she juggles her job as a social media influencer, her complicated love life, and her unconventional family – only this time as an adult. The series also stars Jerry Trainer (Drake and Josh) and Nathan Kress (Into the Storm), who are both reprising their roles as Spencer and Freddie, respectively. Newcomers Laci Mosley (The Wedding Year) and Jaidyn Triplett (A Kid from Southside) also star.

Like Paramount+’s SpongeBob Squarepants spinoff, Kamp Koral, the iCarly reboot is the streamer’s latest effort to build off past iconic children’s shows in order to popularize the iCarly and SpongeBob gallery on their platform as a whole. Classic favorites such as The Fairly OddParents and Blue’s Clues will also be returning on the platform in different forms. The former will return as a live-action series for Paramount+, while the latter will return as an animated film entitled Blue’s Clues & You!. The streamer’s aim is to reignite interest in each show’s library on the platform.
