It is time to prepare for the mission. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount+ recently released the trailer for their new CIA drama Special Ops: Lioness. The show is set to premiere on July 23 and is the latest show by Taylor Sheridan (Pure Grit, 1883). The latest espionage thriller to premiere in 2023, the show will follow a mission from the CIA’s war on terror that goes badly off course behind enemy lines. Watch the trailer below.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Special Ops: Lioness is the latest show from Sheridan with Paramount TV productions. He is currently involved in popular shows like Yellowstone, and its fifth season. He is also involved in the prequel limited series 1923 from the Yellowstone universe. Sheridan has also worked in the freshman dramedy Tulsa King which stars Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Samaritan). He is also working on the second season of Mayor of Kingstown and has upcoming projects, Land Man and Bass Reeves.
The show stars Zoe Saldaña (Avatar: The Way of Water, From Scratch) as Joe; Nicole Kidman (The Northman, Being the Ricardos) as Kaitlyn Meade; Laysla de Oliveira (Locke & Key, Needle in a Timestack) as Cruz Manuelos; Michael Kelly (House of Cards, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) as Donald Westfield; Morgan Freeman (Invictus, The Shawshank Redemption) as Edwin Mullins; Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters, Walker) as Neil; Jill Wagner (Teen Wolf, Braven) as Bobby; LaMonica Garrett (1883, Designated Survivor) as Tucker; James Jordan (Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown) as Two Cups; Austin Hébert (Shot in the Dark, Unbelievable) as Randy; Jonah Wharton (Manodrome, The Rookie) as Tex; Stephanie Nur (The Quest, North of the 10) as Aaliyah; and Hannah Love Lanier (The Tiny Mighty Club, A Black Lady Sketch Show) as Kate.
The show is based on a real-life CIA program and will follow Cruz Manuelos, played by de Oliveira, who is described as “a passionate but rough-around-the-edges young Marine who has been recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within.”
Saldaña will be playing Joe, the Lioness program’s station chief. She is tasked with her female undercover operatives’ training, management, and leadership. Kidman will be playing Kaitlyn Meade, the CIA’s senior supervisor who has had a long career playing the politics game. Meade must juggle the trappings of being a woman in the high-ranking intelligence community, a wife who longs for the attention she herself can’t even give, and a mentor to someone coming close to the same rocky road she’s found herself on.
Kidman will also serve as an executive producer of the show alongside Sheridan, David C. Glasser (Yellowstone, The Last Cowboy), Saldaña, Ron Burkle (Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King), Bob Yari (Yellowstone, 1883), David Hutkin (Kickback, Tulsa King), Jill Wagner (A Merry Christmas Wish, Hearts of Winter), Geyer Kosinski (Redeeming Love, Goliath), Michael Malone (Foundation, Daybreak), and John Hillcoat (George & Tammy, Triple 9).
Special Ops: Lioness is set to premiere on July 23 on Paramount+. All other Sheridan shows are available to stream on Paramount+.
