Popular streaming service Paramount+ has released a short video on Twitter to promote the upcoming series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. The animated teaser shows fans the fabrication of the pink jackets that the Pink Ladies always wear in the Grease films.
The tagline for the Grease prequel is “witness the rise.” The ten-episode show will take place four years before Sandy and Danny’s love story in Grease. Set in 1954, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is a musical comedy show that will show fans the creation of the iconic Pink Ladies group. “Before rock ‘n’ roll ruled, before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school, four fed-up outcasts dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever,” says Comic Book.
The spinoff has been in the works for years but was originally ordered on the streaming platform HBO Max before making its way to Paramount+. It was given the green light in 2021. The cast was announced early last year through Twitter, which includes Marisa Davila (I Am Not Okay with This, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Ari Notartomaso (Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin), Tricia Fukuhara (Queen Pins, Dante Falls), Shanel Bailey (The Equalizer, The Good Fight), Madison Thompson (Ozark, Emergency), Johnathan Nieves (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, See You Yesterday), Maxwell Whittington-Cooper (When They See Us, Godfather of Harlem), Jackie Hoffman (Garden State, Birdman or [The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance]), and newcomers Cheyenne Isabel Wells and Jason Schmidt. Annabel Oakes (All Exchanges Final, Atypical) will serve as the showrunner and executive producer.
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies will air sometime in early 2023. No release date has been announced. Grease and Grease 2 are available to watch on Paramount+. The former is also on Netflix.
