The full trailer for Paramount+’s Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies was released today. According to Comicbook, the audience can expect younger versions of some familiar characters to pop up, including Principal McGee, played by Jackie Hoffman (Only Murders in the Building, The Politician), who was already in charge of Rydell High. The fans of the original Grease received the show with excitement, and are waiting with anticipation for the new musical numbers created for the series. Watch the trailer below.
The prequel series will have new original music, written and executive produced by Justin Tranter (The Bravest Knight, Lady Gaga: 911), a Grammy-nominated songwriter. Jamal Sims (Encanto, Descendants 3), whose work has appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race, will be in charge of the choreography for the musical numbers. Alethea Jones (Queen America, Dollface) will be directing the first episode and two more episodes.
According to Comicbook, the main group of characters is conformed of Marisa Davila (Love and Baseball, My Big Fat Blonde Musical) as Jane, newcomer Cheyenne Isabel Wells starring as Olivia, Ari Notartomaso (Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin) plays Cynthia, and Tricia Fukuhara (The Super Pops, Tango of Imaginary Friends) playing Nancy. Other important members of the cast are Shanel Bailey (The Equalizer, The Good Fight) as Hazel, Madison Thompson (Ozark, The Young and the Restless) stars as Susan, and Jason Schmidt (FBI: Most Wanted) starring as Buddy.
The prequel series will take place in 1954, four years before the original Grease. It takes place in a time before rock ‘n’ roll ruled and before the T-Birds were the coolest in high school. The series will focus on four fed-up outcasts that dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.
