Paramount+ has dropped its official Yellowstone origin story sneak peek at the trailer of 1923. During Sunday’s episode of Yellowstone is when Paramount+ dropped the official trailer of its second prequel, according to Deadline. The prequel story stars Harrison Ford (The Fugitive, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) portraying Jacob Dutton and Helen Mirren (The Queen, RED) portraying Cara Dutton.
The trailer unfolds with Donald Whitfield, played by Timothy Dalton (License to Kill, Flash Gordon), who introduces himself to the Dutton family matriarch, in company with Banner Creighton, played by Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones, Ripper Street), to share that he has acquired the adjacent ranch, according to ABC News. The trailer ends with a sinister threat from Jacob that declares, “You attack my family, it’s gonna be the last thing you ever do.”
This prequel series will uncover a new generation of the Dutton family that is led by patriarch Jacob and his wife Cara and will explore the “early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home,” according to Paramount+.
The network has revealed that they will be hosting a linear airing of the premiere episode of 1923 immediately superseding the premiere of a new episode of Yellowstone. Jacob Dutton is also the brother of James Dutton, a character played by Tim McGraw (Friday Night Lights, The Blind Side) in the first prequel series titled 1883. In addition to 1883, Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water, Wind River) is also working on another Yellowstone spinoff titled 1883: The Bass Reeves Story. 1883: The Bass Reeves Story follows Bass Reeves, a real-life legendary lawman of the Wild West who was the first Black U.S. Marshall west of the Mississippi and is known for conducting over 3,000 arrests without ever being bruised or wounded, according to The Pioneer Woman.
The prequel also stars Michelle Randolph (A Snow White Christmas, The Undertaker’s Wife), Aminah Nieves (Dogwood, V/H/S/99), Darren Mann (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Embattled), James Badge Dale (The Departed, World War Z), Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker, Flight), and Marley Shelton (Death Proof, Planet Terror).
1923 is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions. 1923 is set to debut on Sunday, December 18, 2022, in both the United States and Canada on Paramount+.
