Tony-nominated actress Ashley Park has recently been cast in a co-starring role opposite Lily Collins in Emily in Paris, Paramount Network’s (previously known as Spike TV) half-hour dramedy from Beverly Hills 90210 and Sex and the City alum, Darren Star. Set to be filmed on location in the very same French capital, production has also officially been marked as commencing by Collins via Instagram:
Emily in Paris will follow the titular Emily, played by Collins, who is described as a “driven twentysomething American from the Midwest who moves to Paris for an unexpected job opportunity, tasked with bringing an American point of view to a venerable French marketing firm. Cultures clash as she adjusts to the challenges of life in a foreign city, while juggling her career, new friendships and love life.”
Park is set to play Emily’s best friend, Mindy Chen, who ends up meeting her through a series of events. Park’s Mindy is a “fellow expat who has fallen in love with the city, a stark contrast to how Emily is adjusting to Parisian life.” The actress herself is known for receiving Tony, Drama League, Drama Desk, Outer Critics and Chita Rivera nominations for her performance as Gretchen Wieners in Broadway’s Mean Girls adaptation.
Her other credits include: Tuptim the Lincoln Center’s revival of The King and I, for which she received a Grammy nomination as well; Sunday in the Park with George; and Mamma Mia! Recent television credits include Tales of the City and Nightcap.
The Paramount Network announced back in September, that the company had given the series a production order for the first season which will consist of ten episodes. Created by Darren Star who will also serve as the series’ executive producer alongside Tony Hernandez, the series is slated to be a co-production with Jax Media. Collins will also take on producing duties for the upcoming series. No other details have been released on the series.
