According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 1995 cult classic film Clueless is moving forward at Paramount+ with its sequel series. The series will star film star Alicia Silverstone (The Crush, Blast from the Past) as the Beverly Hills-bred Cher 30 years after the events of the film, as an owner of a successful business and a mother. As a mother, Cher thinks she has everything figured out until her daughter starts high school.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the series is executive produced by Silverstone and the original film’s director Amy Heckerling (Loser, I Could Never Be Your Woman) and producer Robert Lawrence (The Last Castle, Nothing to Lose). It will shoot on location in L.A., according to Paramount+, the same as the original film, which shot in many locations including Occidental College in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of L.A., Circus Liquor in North Hollywood and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
The Hollywood Reporter reports it is being written and executive produced by Josh Schwartz (Marvel’s Runaways, Looking for Alaska) and Stephanie Savage (Endless Love, Nancy Drew) under their Fake Empire banner along with Jordan Weiss (Dollface, Harley Quinn). CBS Studios is set to produce the series.
“Clueless is coming home,” Paramount+ head of originals Jane Wiseman said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. “Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make Clueless a box office hit and instant pop culture classic. We’re especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series was originally set to be in development at Peacock in 2025, but after a year of no progress, the project was scrapped as the series was put back out on the market.
The Clueless film is available to stream on Paramount+.
