According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount+ has canceled Halo after two seasons on the platform. The series, based on the Xbox video game franchise, recently wrapped up its second season in March. Paramount+ gave a statement regarding the cancellation of the series.
“We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener (Riddle of Fire, Brave New World), his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the Ne Black, Den of Thieves) as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work,” Paramount+ said in the statement. “We wish everyone the best going forward.”
343 Industries gave their statement on the series’ cancellation. Sources say that Amblin, Xbox and 343 Industries will possibly look for a new platform for the third installment of the series. Paramount+ is said to support the possibility of continuing the series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say, “We deeply appreciate the millions of fans who propelled the Halo series to be a global success, and we remain committed to broadening the Halo universe in different ways in the future,“We are grateful to Amblin and Paramount for their partnership in bringing our expansive sci-fi universe to viewers around the world.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Halo had a long path before landing a deal with Paramount+. The series began developing on Showtime in 2014, with a formal series order in 2018. Afterward, the series was moved to Paramount+ in 2021, one year before debuting its first season. Kyle Killen (The Beaver, Mind Games) and Steven Kane (The Last Ship, American Dad!) were in charge, of the first season and then Wiener took the reins for the second season.
The two seasons of Halo are still available to stream on Paramount+.
