Paramount+ is bringing the early 2000s back to the small screen. It was recently announced that Nickelodeon and Paramount+ are working together to create a follow-up movie based on the popular live-action series Zoey 101. According to Deadline, Nickelodeon announced today that production has begun on the new film which is using the working title Zoey 102. The movie will be a full-length original young adult movie based on the characters from the popular show.
According to Deadline, most of the original cast is set to return for the new movie. Jamie Lynn Spears (Sweet Magnolias, The Backyardigans) will return to reprise her role as Zoey Brooks. Other cast members returning are Eric Sanders (Big Time Rush, The Call) who is reprising their role as Quinn Pensky, Sean Flynn (The Golden Stars, The Magic Studio) as Chase Matthews, Christopher Massey (Accountable, That’s So Raven) is returning as Michael Barret, Matthew Underwood (The Golden Stars, The Magic Studio) is back playing Logan Reese, Abby Wilde (iCarly, Sam & Cat) stars as Stacy Dillsen and Jack Salvatore (10 Things I Hate About You, Victorious) is reprising his role as Mark Del Figgalo.
Among those original cast members not returning are Paul Butcher (MyMusic, Destiny 7) who played Zoey’s younger brother Dustin; Victoria Justice (A Perfect Pairing, Afterlife of the Party) who played Lola Martinez before starring in her own show Victorious; and Alexa Nikolas (The Walking Dead, Supernatural) who played Nicole Bristow.
The movie will follow the Pacific Coast Academy alumni as they get together for a wedding in the present day. The movie is in production in North Carolina and according to Deadline, will premiere later this year exclusively on Paramount+.
The original series, Zoey 101, premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005 and quickly became one of the best live-action kids’ TV shows at the time. The show followed Zoey as she enrolls in Pacific Coast Academy, a boarding school that was previously an all-boys school. The series tells the stories of Zoey and her friends as they navigate life as teenagers in a boarding school. The series ran for four seasons and was created by Dan Schneider (iCarly, Drake & Josh).
The new movie is being directed by Nancy Hower (10 Items or Less, Quick Draw), with a script written by Monica Sherer (Betch, All That) and Madeline Whitby (Drama Club, Betch). Spears executive produces alongside newcomer Alexis Fisher, Hower, Sherer, and Whitby.
Zoey 102 will premiere in late 2023 exclusively on Paramount+. Watch the original show Zoey 101 on Netflix.
