Dexter: Original Sin is close to its chilling premiere. Deadline reports that on Tuesday morning, before its debut on Dec. 13, Paramount Global released the official trailer and exclusive images for the series.
The series focuses on a young Dexter Morgan, portrayed by Patrick Gibson (The OA, Shadow and Bone), as he ventures into the journey from a crime student to becoming the beloved serial killer that fans learned to love in the original series Dexter.
According to Deadline, the trailer is narrated by Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under, The Crown), who portrayed adult Dexter in the 2021 spinoff Dexter: New Blood and the original 2006 series Dexter. The scenes in this trailer make the viewers understand that Original Sin follows chronologically the events that unfolded in the first season finale of New Blood. Dexter, as played by Hall, is lying on the floor, presumably deceased, after his son Harrison, portrayed by Jack Alcott (The Good Lord Bird), shoots him. As the trailer goes on, Dexter is shown in the emergency room, and his younger life flashes before his eyes, continuing the storyline of Original Sin. The trailer is embedded below.
According to Deadline, the prequel series’ recurring stars include Christian Slater (Interview With The Vampire, Mr. Robot), Christina Milian (Meet Me Next Christmas, Step Up), Molly Brown (The Good House, Lost Girls), James Martinez (One Day at a Time, God Friended Me), Reno Wilson (Good Girls, Mike & Molly) and Alex Shimizu (S.W.A.T., The Blacklist). Guest stars in the series include Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy, Thanksgiving). Hall is also returning to voice Dexter Morgan’s inner monologue, as he did in the original Showtime series.
If anyone is interested in the official synopsis of the series, Deadline has it available to read below:
“Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”
Dexter: Original Sin will be released on Dec. 13 on Paramount+ and Showtime on Dec. 15.
