FX’s Better Things, created by Pamela Adlon (Louie, Grease 2), has been renewed for a 5th season, per The Hollywood Reporter. Adlon plays the lead role of Sam Fox, who must juggle having a demanding job in Hollywood and raising three daughters on her own. Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood), Hannah Alligood (Paper Towns), and Olivia Edward (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) star as Fox’s daughters. She is also the writer and director of the show.
Due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, the prospective date for the release of the new season is set for 2021 but could be subject to change if the time frame is not feasible. In the meantime, Adlon has also signed a deal with Disney, the parent company of FX, to produce multiple new projects. Better Things can be found on Hulu, of which Disney is the majority owner. President of FX Entertainment Eric Schneider said of the renewal, “We are truly honored to work with Pamela. She is one of the most talented artists in the business, which is exemplified through her work as a producer/showrunner, actor, writer and director. The most recent season of Better Things was its best yet and we’re excited about what’s to come in season five, as well as all of the future projects we are working on together” (The Hollywood Reporter). Better Things boasts a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a Golden Globe Nomination for Best Performance – Pamela Adlon on and two Primetime Emmy Award Nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress – Pamela Adlon in 2017 and 2018.
