It was announced earlier today by Deadline that Orlando Jones will be joining Bryan Fuller’s cast on Starz new series American Gods, which is a direct adaption from Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel.
The Sleepy Hollow actor will be playing the role of Mr. Nancy, also known as Anansi. Nancy is one of Mr. Wednesday’s (Ian McShane) oldest friends.
The series follows the story of war between the old gods and the new. The old mythological gods are losing believers whereas the new gods, who reflect more modern topics like money, media, drugs and celebrities are gaining numbers.
Ricky Whittle (Hollyoaks, The 100) is stepping into the role of Shadow Moon who is the protagonist and bodyguard to Mr. Wednesday. Together Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon are on a mission to find willing fighters for the impending war.
Nancy (Jones) is ready for the war. He wants to punish the new America and the new gods.
The news of Jones joining the adaption comes after most other casting has finished. Other cast members include: Emily Browning who plays Laura Moon, Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney, Betide Badaki as Bliquis, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Crispin Gloverplaying Mr. World, Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith, Gillian Anderson stepping into the role of Media, Peter Stormare playing Czernobog, and Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya.
Although one of the last to be cast in the series, Jones and Fuller have worked together previously on the ABC show Pushing Daisies; which starred Lee Pace and Kristin Chenoweth.
Before the series premieres, you can see Jones in the upcoming indie film The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea directed by Bill Purple and starring rising star Maisie Williams alongside Jason Sudeikis and Jessica Biel.
There is no official premiere date for the upcoming fantasy but American Gods will be on Starz in the near future.
