Deadline reports that Orlando Bloom (Carnival Row, Kingdom of Heaven) is set to star in Amazon’s series adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s (The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, The Hand That First Held Mine) novel This Must Be the Place as an American linguist. Bloom will executive produce the project as well. Killing Eve showrunner, Suzanne Heathcote (Little Voice, Fear the Walking Dead), will write and executive produce the series.
The series comes from Amazon Studios, BBC Studios LA Productions, Bloom’s Amazing Owl, and House Productions.
This Must Be the Place depicts multiple time periods and continents to show the redemptive power of love and the ways past choices impact our present as an American linguist and a reclusive Anglo-French actress find their marriage threatened by their past lives.
The novel follows the complicated life of Daniel Sullivan, a New Yorker living in Ireland with children that he never sees in California, a father he hates in Brooklyn, and a reclusive ex-film star wife, Claudette. They have made a beautiful life together in the country, but it is all threatened by a secret from Daniels past.
Along with Bloom and Heathcote, the series will be executive produced by Juliette Howell (The Wonder, Sherwood) and Tessa Ross (The Iron Claw, Venus) for House Productions, Adam Karasick (Zoo, Walk the Line) for Amazing Owl, and Angie Stephenson (Ghosts, Call Me Kat) BBC Studios LA Productions.
