The final season of Orange is the New Black is coming. Netflix revealed the premiere date and teaser for season 7, which will conclude the stories of the ladies of Litchfield. The Emmy-winning prison dramedy will begin its final season on Friday, July 26.

The aftermath of last season looms large over the women, and new challenges threaten to complicate their lives even further. Piper (Taylor Schilling) was let out of prison after Hopper gave her early release, but now she has to adjust to life on the outside and wait four years for her lover Alex (Laura Prepon) to finish her sentence. After Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore) gave a false testimony that pinned blame on Taystee (Danielle Brooks) for the murder of Piscatella, Taystee was slammed with a devastating life sentence. Blanca Flores (Laura Gómez) was taken into custody and is facing deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The fates of the Litchfield inmates have been unalterably changed by their time in prison, and the cold reality is that most characters have difficult lives ahead of them — even after their sentences are up.
Given the chance to leave prison — while others suffer injustice in a corrupt, prejudiced prison system — Piper may finally write her memoir and expose what life inside bars is really like. Orange is the New Black is based on the actual memoir by Piper Kerman, a white woman who was sentenced to fifteen months in prison for drug trafficking and money laundering. The popular television show — created by Jenji Kohan — has helped expose corruption in the prison system and humanized its ethnically diverse inmates. Although Orange is the New Black is coming to an end, the series continues to make an impact and shed light on the challenges faced by women in prisons.
