One Piece has absolutely flown to the top of Netflix’s English-language television charts as the first week of its streaming debut comes to an end, according to Deadline. In One Piece‘s premiere week, it garnered a whopping 18.5 million views.
One Piece is a live-action adaptation of the beloved manga by Eiichiro Oda. Oda’s manga rules the Top 10 in 93 countries and sits at number one in 46 of them.
The buzz for One Piece has not gone unnoticed, the manga, anime and now live-action adaptation have an extremely dedicated fanbase. While 18.5 million viewers is by no means small number, it can be perceived as one in regards to the recent numbers Netflix has been accumulating through their recent series. A strong number of Netflix’s more recent series have dominated the all-time most popular list, according to Deadline. For comparison, Wednesday, featuring Jenna Ortega (The Fallout, Scream VI) portraying the iconic Wednesday Addams, accumulated 341.23 million hours viewed in only the first week. Wow! The enormous amount of viewing hours translates to about 43 million viewers. Bridgerton spin-off Queen Charlotte also drew in around 24 million views in it’s first week on the streaming platform.
The series will undoubtably continue to gain traction as its residency on Netflix continues, but it’s suggested that One Piece is bound to grow through word of mouth. Word of mouth is a powerful tool for Netflix, as it’s believed to be why Adam Sandler’s (Funny People, Murder Mystery) newest family comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah has been the most-viewed title on Netflix this week.
In regards to One Piece, it is executive produced by Marty Adelstein (Hanna, The Experiment) and Becky Clements (Big Fat Liar, Ten Year Old Tom) and is produced by Tomorrow Studios.
