Netflix has given a straight-to-series order for the On My Block spinoff titled Freeridge, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The mothership series will premiere its fourth and final season on October 4.
Freeridge, featuring an entirely new group of friends, takes place in the same L.A. area town as On My Block. In the series, the characters must deal with the release of a deadly curse, exploring another part of the fictitious town. On My Block follows four friends who are forced to confront the challenges of growing up in their predominantly Hispanic and Black neighborhood. The series stars Diego Tinoco (Drizzle of Hope), Sierra Capri (American Skin), Jason Genao (Logan), and Brett Gray (When They See Us). The series maintains a 95 percent rating among critics alongside a 91 percent score with viewers on RottenTomatoes.
“While this chapter is closing for our OG squad this October as they reach the end of high school, we are excited to bring a brand new cast of characters and stories to life in this On My Block spinoff,” Netflix comedy head, Tracey Pakosta, said. “There are so many more stories to tell in Freeridge and we’re grateful to continue this journey,” via The Hollywood Reporter.
