Showtime released the trailer and poster art for SMILF, a new upcoming comedy series. Frankie Shaw serves as the creator and executive producer of the show and is also starring in the new series, Indiewire reports.
Based on Shaw’s Sundance Film Festival Jury Award-winning short film of the same name, this half-hour show is partially inspired by Shaw’s life. Set in South Boston, SMILF is about the life of a 20-something year old working-class single mother Bridgette Bird, played by Frankie Shaw, and it will focus on her romantic and professional engagements. The show will take on Bridgette’s desires for relationships and a successful career while dealing with the realities of being a single mother.
The cast includes comedian and actress Rosie O’Donnell who plays Bridgette Bird’s mother and Miguel Gomez who plays Bridgette’s baby daddy. Samara Weaving, Alexandra and Anna Reimer also co-stars in the show with Friday Night Lights and Nashville‘s Connie Britton, Mark Webber, and Being Mary Jane’s Raven Goodwin serving as guest stars. Britton is set to play Bridgette’s boss Ally, Goodwin as Bridgette’s best friend Eliza, and Webber as Father Eddie, a sober priest, according to Deadline.
Michael London, Lee Eisenberg, Scott King, and Gene Stupnitsky are executive producers alongside Frankie Shaw, ComingSoon noted.
The eight-episode, semi-autobiographical comedy series will premiere on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 10/9c on Showtime after the season 8 premiere of Showtime’s hit series Shameless.
