In a new interview with HeyUGuys, Rupert Friend (Homeland) teased that the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars spinoff series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, will have multiple notable cameos in which were not disclosed. Friend will play The Grand Inquisitor in the series.
“If it’s possible to be any more excited than folks already are, I would be. I think [the series] is one of the most thrilling additions to the Star Wars canon,” Friend said. “I think Ewan McGregor is doing things with that role that is a dream for fans of the original films. You know, we can’t obviously have Alec Guinness back, but I just think Ewan was absolutely born to play that part. And wonderful cameos from people I obviously can’t tell you, but Easter eggs galore… Yeah, it’s a thrilling ride.”
While it is unclear who those cameos will be as of now, this would continue a common trend among each of Disney+’s Star Wars spinoff shows, including The Mandalorian and The Book Of Boba Fett, which have each featured a number of unexpected cameos from past Star Wars films and shows throughout each series.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a spinoff series based on the famed character, played by Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting). McGregor will continue playing Kenobi in this show, as he did in each of the three Star Wars prequels including Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones, and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith.
In addition to McGregor and Friend, the series will also star Hayden Christensen (Jumper), Joel Edgarton (The Gift), Bonnie Piesse (The Vow), Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), and Indira Varma (For Life). It is executive produced by McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy (Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens), Michelle Rejwan (Monster Challenge), Deborah Chow (The High Cost Of Living), and Joby Harold (Awake). Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+ on May 27th.
