The first day of New York Comic Con saw updates from one of TV’s most storied franchises, The Walking Dead. TV Line reports AMC Networks unveiled a brand new teaser for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live limited series. Originally set for theatrical release, the series sees the return of the mothership series’ cast members Andrew Lincoln (Love, Actually) and Danai Gurira (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) reprising their roles as Rick Grimes and Michonne, respectively. View the bloody teaser below.
The series, set for a February release, is touted as a twisted love story as Rick and Michonne seek to reunite amidst the zombie wasteland. Both characters departed the series ahead of its series finale last November. Lincoln departed the show back in 2018, while Guiria’s final episode came in season 10 of 2020. Per TVLine, the official synopsis is as follows: “The series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… and ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”
In addition to the teaser, AMC announced some fellow cast members who will appear in The Ones Who Live. According to TVLine, Lost vet Terry O’Quinn will join the series as Beale. Fans will also see a familiar face in Pollyanna McIntosh, who will reprise the role of Jadis from both The Walking Dead and its youthful spinoff, World Beyond. New Amsterdam’s Matt Jeffers will also recur as Nat.
The Ones Who Live is just the latest spinoff born from the original series. AMC is currently airing Daryl Dixon with star Norman Reedus (The Boondock Saints, Blade II) which airs its first season finale this Sunday. Then you have the Maggie and Negan-paired Dead City which wrapped earlier this year. Both were renewed for a second season. This month, viewers will also get the final episodes of Fear the Walking Dead, the first spinoff airing its eighth season. There was also Tales of the Walking Dead and the two-season World Beyond.
The Ones Who Live’s six-episode season arrives in February 2024.
