Deadline reported that on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 Netflix aired it’s second episode of their Star Search Reboot show. The show is scheduled to run for five weeks. This is a talent competition show that did not hit the numbers that Netflix expected. Star Search did not hit the Netflix’s global top 10 charts during their first week additionally it scored less than 2.3 million views.
According to Deadline, the streamer giant, was hoping that this would be their “in” for a new entertainment format that they will be competing with other shows like NBC’s The Voice, Fox’s The Masked Singer and ABC’s American Idol. Unfortunately, the result was rather a disappointment for Netflix. In the U.S. the show came in at number five falling behind His & Hers, Skyscraper Live, Free Bert and Agatha Christies’s Seven Dials and above WWE’s Raw.
Deadline mentioned that, Anthony Anderson (Lopez Vs. Lopez, Grrown-ish)is the host for the Star Search reboot, while Sarah Michelle Geller (Dexter: Original Sin,Wolf Pack), Chrissy Teigan (Untold, The Way Down) and Jelly Roll (Goat, WWE NXT) are the featured judges on the panel. The first episode featured amazing performers of various ages. Eric Adrian Williams (Tamron Hall) sang I’ll Be There from The Jackson 5 against Blair Kudelka who sang the song Blue which was originally recorded by LeAnn Rimes (Contry Comfort, Logan Lucky). 2BYG, a boy band sang I’d Gonna Be Me against and the Australian girl group, H3rizon who sung the Sabrina Carpenter’s song, Espresso. Star Search was not just singing but they also featured dancers as well. The French Troupe Ladymetry danced against Movement55.
Jesse Collins (Christmas in Nashville, BET Awards 2024) is the executive producer of the reboot spoke with Deadline saying, “If I had to wager, I think Jelly Roll cries first.” On the second episode this is exactly what happens. Bear Bailey’s cover of Hard Fought Hallelujah a song written by Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll, caused Roll to cry.
The show was streamed live with viewers having a chance to vote remotely from their phones.
