The procedural world of The Rookie is officially expanding its borders, with an upcoming spin-off swapping the crowded streets of Los Angeles for the chilling landscape of Vancouver, Canada. According to Deadline, the series creator Alexi Hawley (The Recruit, The Beginning) gives a recent update and providing a clearer visual for fans of the plot for the future spin-off, The Rookie: North. What we currently know is that the leading character if the series, will be played by Jay Ellis (Escape Room, Freaky Tales).
Reported by Deadline, the spin-off official logoline states, Alex Holland didn’t believe that his mid-life was worthy as a crisis, but after experiencing a home invasion spark a determination or a change. After his many failed attempts, he joined the the Pierce County Police Department as its oldest rookie and prove himself as a worthy officer to everyone. This project will surely contain the same blend of action, humor, and emotion that has made the series franchise so well-known.
Hawley explained the location change in an interview with Deadline,”I think ultimately, what I got excited about was, I think every patrol cop show versus a procedural has really been big-city oriented, New York, Boston, Chicago, LA, so I like the idea that this place is a bigger slice of America, where people live.” Hawley goes into further details,”so that was a little bit of a different way in, it is a guy who’s a little more lost. I think Nathan’s character was a successful professional, obviously blue collar or whatever, he was just a little lost after his divorce and everything. But this is just a little different.”
This series is a bold, standalone venture that will not connect with the original series or the spinoff, The Rookie: Feds, featuring Niecy Nash (Origin, Beauty). While waiting on further information on the release date for the approaching spin-off, all seasons of the original The Rookie series are available to stream on Hulu.
