Seth MacFarlane is tempering expectations for fans hoping to see more of Ted, as the creator and voice behind the foul‑mouthed teddy bear addressed the future of the Peacock series beyond its newly released second season. According to The Wrap, MacFarlane admitted he currently has “no plan” for a Season three, citing the unexpectedly high production costs of the prequel comedy.
MacFarlane explained that both Peacock and Universal made it clear that the series was “really expensive to produce” and that there was no feasible way to lower the budget for additional episodes. “What I kept hearing [from Peacock and Universal] was, ‘Listen, the show is really expensive to produce and there’s no way to do it at a lower cost,’” he told The Wrap. “So I said, ‘All right, I hear you loud and clear.’”
Because of that, MacFarlane approached the Season two finale as a potential ending point for the series. He revealed that he intentionally wrote the final scene to connect directly to the opening of the original Ted film from 2012. The moment features Max, played by Max Burkholder, walking into a gym — a nod meant to imply that he will eventually grow into the adult version of the character portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in the movies. “I wrote the last scene with Max walking into gym, presumably coming out as Mark Wahlberg in the first Ted film,” MacFarlane told The Wrap.
While MacFarlane did not rule out the possibility of returning to the series in the future, he told The Wrap that the financial realities of producing a show with a fully animated lead character make additional seasons unlikely at this time. For now, fans can stream both seasons of Ted on Peacock.
