Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever and Alison Brie To Star In New Anthology Series ‘Roar’ For Apple TV+

Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies), Cynthia Erivo (Bad Times At the El Royale), Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie) and Alison Brie (Community) will star in Roar, a new anthology series greenlit by Apple TV+ according to The Hollywood Reporter. GLOW creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch are adapting a book by Cecelia Ahern (Perfect). The upcoming series is the first of the duo’s overall deal at Apple.

Nicole Kidman most recently starred in HBO’s The Undoing just last year. She starred as Celeste Wright in both seasons of the HBO’s critically acclaimed Big Little Lies. On the movie front Kidman starred in DC’s 2018 Feature Aquaman. Kidman this year will star in the upcoming mini series Nine Perfect Strangers and is also set to star in Amazon Studios’ Being the Ricardos as Lucille Ball.

Erivo starred in HBO’s crime drama The Outsider in 2020. She starred alongside Chris Hemsworth (Thor), John Hamm (Mad Men), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Of Grey), Jeff Bridges (Iron Man) in the 2018 film Bad Times At The El Royale. In that same year she starred in the Liam Neeson (Taken) and Viola Davis (Doubt) ensemble cast film Widow. Best known for her role of Harriett Tubman in the 2019 film Harriett, Erivo is set to star as Aretha Franklin in the new upcoming season of Nat Geo’s DocuSeries Genius.

Brie widely known for her role of Annie Edison on NBC’s cult classic Community. She also voice the role of Diane Nygen in Netflix’s long running adult animated comedy Bojack Horseman. She now stars in Netflix’s GLOW based off the true story of the 1980’s all female wrestling group.

Wever won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role as Zoey Barkow in the Showtime hit comedy/hospital series Nurse Jackie. She was featured in the AMC’s The Walking Dead in 2016. Wever most recently finished up the first season of comedy/thriller RUN on HBO.

Roar will consist of eight half hour episodes based on short stories in the book by Ahern. The episodes each tell a story from a uniquely female point of view and cover a wide variety of genres according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kidman will also serve as executive producer along with her Blossom Films partner Per Saari. Her company’s most recent projects include HBO’s Big Little Lies and The Undoing, Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, and Amazon’s The Expatriates, Pretty Things and Things I Know To Be True.

Author Ahern and her company Greenlight Go, Theresa Park’s Capita Productions, and Endeavor Content will produce the upcoming series along with showrunners Flahive and Mensch. The show is part of the growing lineup of upcoming series at Apple TV+’s roster joining Physical, Pachinko, Foundation, The Shrink Next Door and others.
