The best friend of the creature who lives in a pineapple under the sea is getting a spin-off show. Nickelodeon is set to create a SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off series The Patrick Star Show, according to Deadline.
The series will focus on Patrick Star and his family, and is said to receive a 13-episode order and comes from the creative team behind the original series, according to Deadline. Patrick Star is voiced by Bill Fagerbakke (How I Met Your Mother), with other members of the original cast occasional appearances in their old roles. There will also be a lot of new characters voiced by a new cast.
The astronomically popular original series began in 1999 and follows the odd life of Spongebob Squarepants and his sea creature friends. The series has won 10 Primetime Emmys since its debut. President of Nickelodeon Brian Robbins announced in 2019 his plan for the network to develop SpongeBob SquarePants spin-offs. Kamp Koral the upcoming 13-episode CG-animated SpongeBob prequel series was the first to get approved, and has recently moved from Nickelodeon to sibling streamer CBS All Access.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run is the most recent addition to the franchise, will be released on premium VOD and CBS All Access in early 2021. There is no word on when The Patrick Star Show will debut.
