Premiering July 17, The Kids’ Choice Sports Awards will feature prominent figures in the sports’ world in a Kids’ Choice Awards format.
Nickelodeon is introducing a new award show following the large success of their long-running Kids’ Choice Awards, notes The Hollywood Reporter . The new award show will be hosted by former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan. Strahan will also act as executive producer for the award show.
Like the Kids’ Choice Awards, the new award show will have viewers voting for their favorites professional teams, athletes and sports moments from the year. The show will also feature Nickelodeon’s signature stunt: slime. Various slime-filled sports will be featured through out the award ceremony.
The announcement came from the executives at Nickelodeon on Thursday morning at their annual upfront presentation to advertisers to advertisers in New York. The Kids’ Choice Awards have consistently brought in high ratings for the network and they are confident in their choice to expand the franchise.
“It is a real honor to be the inaugural host of the Kids’ Choice Sports awards,” said Strahan. “As an athlete and as a father to four kids who grew up with Nickelodeon, I know firsthand what an important role sports play in kids’ lives.”
