Nickelodeon is developing a multi-camera comedy kid’s crime procedural with Garry Marshall and Aaron Kaplan.
Reported exclusively by Deadline, Marshall, who is well know from the 1970s for Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy and The Odd Couple, will team with producer Kaplan on the project. Marshall will co-write the script with son Scott Marshall (Keeping Up With The Steins). Garry Marshall will also direct.
The show follows kids aged 10 to 12 years old portraying grown-up characters like that of Alan Parker’s Bugsy Malone, which stars Scott Baio and Jodie Foster. The show will center on a male cop, his brother the DA (District Attorney) and a female judge both brothers have a crush on. Rounding out the cast include a corrupt mayor and a local business owner who is “connected.”
Garry Marshal, Scott Marshall and Kaplan will be executive producers on the show.
All three have recent history with Nickelodeon. Kaplan produced Instant Mom and Wendell & Vinnie. Garry Marshall was a guest star on Nick’s See Dad Run, which stars Happy Days alum Scott Baio, an episode directed by Scott Marshall. The father-son duo worked together to write a multi-camera project for Fox last season.
