Nick Robinson and Kate Mara Join FX’s Limited Series ‘A Teacher’

FX has officially given a limited series order for the upcoming series, A Teacher, which is set to star Nick Robinson and Kate Mara —Hannah Fidell’s feature film of the same name will be used as inspiration for the 10 episode series.

The story will revolve around the mugshot of a female high school teacher named Claire (Mara), who ends up being caught in an affair with her much younger male student, Eric (Robinson). As the relationship escalates, other issues and complications arise due to the illegal nature of the two’s dalliance.

“Working with FX – truly the home of all my favorite shows – on A Teacher is a dream come true,” commented Fidell. “I couldn’t ask for a more perfect partner who, from day one, has understood and embraced the inherenent complexities and nuance required for such subject matter.”

Fidell’s original film version, which she also wrote, produced, directed, was initially released back in 2013, after debuting at the Sundance Film Festival of that year. Through FX Productions, Fidell will write and direct the series while also serving as an executive producer; Mara, Michael Costigan and Jason Bateman of Aggregate Films, and Danny Brocklehurst, will produce the series as well.

“Hannah Fidell is an exceptional filmmaker we have long admired for her intuitive ability to bring complex stories to life with depth and grace,” said Gina Balian, co-president of original programming for FX Entertainment. “We are thrilled to partner with Hannah, Kate Mara, Michael Costigan, Jason Bateman and Danny Brocklehurst to adapt A Teacher into a limited series for FX, with Kate leading an extraordinary cast along with Nick Robinson.”

Mara’s other small screen credits include a guest role on the acclaimed first season of FX’s Pose and American Horror Story. The actress also previously had a starring role in the first season of Netflix’s House of Cards, while her film roles include: The Martian, the Fantastic Four reboot, 127 Hours, and Shooter.

Co-lead Robinson, is most well-known for his role on ABC Family’s  (now Freeform) TV sitcom, Melissa & Joey, as a series regular in the role of Ryder Scanlon. His other feature film roles include starring as the main lead in Love, Simon, Jurassic World, and The Kings of Summer.
