According to an article by ComicBook, Nick Offerman (The Last of Us, Parks & Recreation, Bob’s Burgers) and Megan Mullally (Will & Grace, Parks & Recreation, Risky Business) are set to star in the fourth and final season of the Netflix exclusive, Umbrella Academy. The performers have their individual thespian talent that got them far in the entertainment industry but together they become a dynamic acting duo. Often portrayed as a zany couple in television and commercials, the two are actually married and have been for almost twenty years now and are considered one of the funniest couples in Hollywood.
Fans love to watch the married couple collaborate on projects together such as the messy relationship between Ron Swanson and Tammy II in NBC’s Parks & Recreation. The couple also got a commercial deal from Sling streaming service where they portrayed exuberant “slingers’, a play-on term of swingers who just really like the Sling streaming service. Thankfully we will see the two together again in the upcoming season of Umbrella Academy.
While doing press for her Starz exclusive series Party Down, she unintentionally informed the public that Mullally and her husband were getting ready to begin filming season four of Umbrella Academy. Although her deal with Netflix hadn’t been completely processed she said, “I mean, the deal’s not quite closed but let’s just pretend it is.” In an interview with ET Online asking about her and Offerman’s roles in the series, she stated they will portray “a mild-mannered married couple named Jean and Gene who are college professors. We start filming in a couple of weeks.” With Umbrella Academy‘s reputation of taking seemingly normal characters and making them more complex, an integral cog in the storyline, it’s very likely Mullally and Offerman’s new roles will have a few surprises.
Fans are curious how Offerman and Mullally will fit into the alternate reality that the finale of season three Umbrella Academy created. At the end of the latest season, Sir Reginald Hargreaves, the non-biological father of the seven superhero children played by Colm Feore (King Lear, The Prodigy, Stephen King’s: Storm of the Century), was revealed to be an alien life form driven to revive his wife creating a reality-altering mechanism that throws our main characters into a chaotic situation with alternate reality replacements with different super abilities. After some fighting and sabotage, a few members of both groups emerge into a new universe run by Reginald and strips them of all superpowers.
It’s obvious that Umbrella Academy is nearing its conclusion and will most likely have a series finale of epic proportions, hopefully involving Offerman and Mullally’s character Jean and Gene in a super heroic way.
