Thanks to Instagram, Entertainment Weekly recently posted newly released photos of FX’s miniseries of A Christmas Carol. Although the announcement about the series was made months before, sometime in early spring, these photos are the first glimpse fans have on miniseries featuring co-leads Andy Serkis (Black Panther) and Guy Pearce (Iron Man 3).
The television adaptation of Charles Dickens 1843 novel of A Christmas Carol is the latest collaboration between FX and BBC. It will involve actor turned executive producer for the project Tom Hardy and writer Steven Knight. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, both Hardy and Knight were interested in taking on story as timeless and easy to tell like A Christmas Carol and give it a new perspective which is more of its time. As well as playing more with the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge (played by Guy Pearce), with the hard contrast of looks verses his attitude toward life and getting to see Scrooge on a deeper perhaps on more personal level that audiences may not have seen in other adaptations. Many good film renditions of A Christmas Carol such as Jim Carrey’s 2009 animated version and the 1951 version with Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge. The miniseries seems like it will follow closely to classic storyline, where Ebenezer Scrooge, a bitter and miserable man is warned by a revenant that three ghost will appear on Christmas Eve. With the help of the three ghosts, Scrooge is taken on a journey throughout his past, present, and future in hopes that he is able to learn the error of his ways and learn the true meaning of Christmas spirit.
The line-up of actors that are set to appear in the miniseries also include Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings) who is playing the Ghost of Christmas Past, Jason Flemyng (Pennyworth) has also signed on as the Ghost of Christmas Future after the death of former actor Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner), who died earlier this year, was set to play the role. Stephen Graham (At Worlds End) plays as Jacob Marley, Charlotte Riley (In the Heart of the Sea) as Lottie, Kayvan Novak (What We Do in the Shadows) as Ali Baba, Joe Alwyn (The Favourite) as Bob Cratchit, Vinette Robinson (Doctor Who) as Mary Cratchit, and Lenny Rush (Old Boys) as Tim Cratchit.
