May the Force be with us. The Star Wars Celebration just started in London and there are still two more days of Star Wars news and surprises waiting for fans. According to Entertainment Weekly, new information was revealed regarding the show The Acolyte during the first day of the celebration, among other exciting announcements, including the release of the Ahsoka trailer.
Unfortunately for fans, the teaser of The Acolyte is reserved for the fans that got a chance to attend the celebration, and it will not be released on the internet. But some details of what can be seen in the teaser have been released via Entertainment Weekly and other TV news outlets. In the teaser, the audience can see Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix, Jessica Jones) using the Force and Jedi participating in extensive lightsaber fights. The teaser also revealed the return of Joonas Suotamo (Willow, Solo: A Star Wars Story), who played Chewbacca in recent movies, as a new Wookie Jedi master Kelnacca.
During the panel of The Acolyte, Leslye Headland, (About Last Night, Russian Doll) the showrunner for the series, revealed the interesting way she pitched the show to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy (Andor, Light & Magic). Headland said, “What I pitched to Kathy was Frozen meets Kill Bill” to which Kennedy answered, “I was blown away by what I was seeing and every bit of love that she has for Star Wars is on the screen.”
The known cast of the show includes Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give, The Hunger Games), Lee Jung-Jae (Squid Game, Chief of Staff), Manny Jacinto (Top Gun: Maverick, The Good Place), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials, Logan), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll, Ordinary Joe), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim, The Independent), Rebecca Henderson (Russian Doll, Inventing Anna), Dean-Charles Chapman(1917, Game of Thrones), Margarita Levieva (The Deuce, In from the Cold), James Henri-Thomas (Christmas Perfection, Mission of Honor), Moss, and Suotamo. No character names or details have been revealed except Jedi master Kelnacca.
The new show will be set in the final days of the High Republic era. The show will be a mystery-thriller that will navigate viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers. A former Padawan and her Jedi Master reunite to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever expected.
While The Acolyte is still filming in London, it has been announced that it will be released in 2024 on Disney+.
