New Showtime Series ‘Penny Dreadful’ to be Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona

Juan Antonio Bayona has signed on to direct the first two episodes of Penny Dreadful, an upcoming series to be featured on Showtime, Indiewire reported.

Penny Dreadful will be a drama surrounding classic horror literature characters Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and Dracula. These age-old characters will be struggling with their “monstrous” identities, and will also cross paths with one another, as stated by the Hollywood Reporter.

Bayona was brought on board for the project as he has had plenty of experience directing horror movies. He’s even won two Goya Awards for Best Director for his work on “The Orphanage” and “The Impossible”.

John Logan will be writing and executive producing Penny Dreadful, along with Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris. Logan is famous for his work on “Hugo”, “The Aviator”, and “Gladiator”. Mendes and Harris both worked on “Revolutionary Road”.

Production for the new Showtime series will begin this fall in London, as announced by the Hollywood Reporter.
