New Show ‘Étoile’ From ‘Maisel’ Creators in the Works at Prime Video

With the end of their hit series Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls, The Return of Jezebel James) and Daniel Palladino (Roseanne, Bunheads) are thinking about what comes next. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Palladinos already have a new series in the works, called Étoile, under their overall deal with Amazon Prime Video. The new show has scored a two-season, straight-to-series order.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, some actors have already joined the series’ cast including Luke Kirby (Gossip Girl, Panhandle), Gideon Glick (American Horror Story, The Pale Blue Eye), Camille Cottin (Killing Eve, House of Gucci), Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Phantom of the Opera), Lou de Laâge (Where Life begins, Black Box), and David Alvarez (West Side Story, American Rust). No character names or details have been released at the moment.

The show will be set in both New York City and Paris. It will follow the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies as they make an ambitious gambit to save their institutions by interchanging their most talented dancers.

Étoile, the new show’s name, translates in English to Star. The Palladinos will write, direct and executive produce together. The couple’s overall deal with Prime Video started in 2017 before their series Marvelous Mrs. Maisel became an Emmy winner and one of the first renowned Prime Video original series. Maisel alum Dhana Rivera Gilbert (Alex Borstein: Corsets & Clown Suits, Vinyl) will executive produce alongside the Palladinos. Scott Ellis (Weeds, Undateable) will also serve alongside them as co-executive producer.

The Palladinos said in a statement that they had planned to retire after wrapping the fifth and final season of Maisel but after some consideration, they decided “to embark on an international journey with an unbelievable group of players and the most talented ballet dancers in the world.” The final season of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is set to premiere on May 26.

Maisel turned out to be a major hit for the Palladinos. The show has won twenty Emmys for its previous four seasons, including outstanding comedy series. Sherman-Palladino made Emmy history after winning both comedy writing and comedy directing the same year. Maisel gave the couple the industry recognition that had eluded them with critical favorites Gilmore Girls and Bunheads

Étoile is still in pre-production and no premiere date has been announced. Seasons one through four of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are available to stream on Prime Video. Don’t miss the premiere of Maisel’s fifth and final season on May 26 only on Prime Video.
