The Hall of Faces teaser trailer released this week has many Game of Thrones fans worried over the fate of their favorite character. But all we have to do to calm our fears is look at the more than 20 images that have also been released by HBO, giving fans an idea who makes the starting lineup at least.
With the exception of a single image of Bran, teasing his return, the promo materials for season 6 so far have been really dark. A blood-spattered, defeated Jon Snow, three battle banner promos, and this latest eerie Hall of Faces teaser. These photos put some color back in the series and, with the exception of Jon Snow, tell us all the fan favorites seem to be safe; or at least alive.
To refresh, at the end of season 5 Cersei Lannister has been shaved and forced into the ultimate walk of shame; Myrcella is dead on the ship back from Dorne with Jamie and Trystane Martell standing by. Tyrion is off in Meereen with Varys while Daenerys, having been rescued from a mob by Drogon, is discovered and surrounded by Dothraki. After the battle of Hardhome and the appearance of the Night’s King, Sam and Gilly are en route for Oldtown, unaware that Jon Snow has been betrayed and stabbed. Stannis is probably dead by Brienne’s sword, which is fitting since he was the worst father ever, sacrificing Shireen and causing her mother to kill herself. Melisandre has fled to Castle Black. Most unfortunately, Ramsey Bolton is still alive, though Sansa and Reek/Theon managed to escape Winterfell. Arya, having killed the wrong man, is punished by the not-dead-yet Jaqen H’ghar by being rendered blind.
I’ve skipped a bunch, but that’s the gist.
Casting announcements have clued us in that this season will become even more crowded, with Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek), Smalljon Umber (Dean Jagger), Randyll Tarley (James Faulkner), Dickon Tarley (Freddie Stroma), several minor family members, and a Braavosi acting troupe all joining the story.
Feast your eyes on these images, via Entertainment Weekly and released by HBO, and mark your calendar for the GoT season premiere on April 24.
