New Peacock Comedy Series ‘Dig’ Starring Amy Poehler Welcomes Geraldine Viswanathan

Deadline reported that Geraldine Viswanathan (Drive-Away Dolls, Thunderbolts) is the newest addition to the cast of the upcoming Peacock comedy series Dig, joining previously announced star Amy Poehwasler (Mean Girls, SNL) and recently added Hugh Laurie (House, Stuart Little). The show marks a highly anticipated reunion between Poehler and her Parks and Recreation co-creator, Mike Schur.

Based on Kate Myers’ bestselling book Excavation, Dig follows four women, one portrayed by Amy Poehler, who are all at personal turning points while working at an archaeological dig in Greece. Their lives are upended when their team uncovers a long-buried secret that could rewrite history, inadvertently pulling them into a high-stakes international conspiracy, according to Deadline.

Deadline says the character Dylan, played by Viswanathan, returns to the archaeological dig in Greece after a five-year hiatus. Her unexpected reappearance is motivated by a need to address some lingering, unfinished business.

The pilot script for Dig was co-written by Mike Schur and Amy Poehler, with J.J. Philbin (Only Murders in the Building) also contributing as a writer on the series. The three writers serve as executive producers alongside a large team, which includes Morgan Sackett, director Dean Holland, Dave Becky, and David Miner (for 3 Arts), Sharon Jackson (for Ocean Avenue), and Kate Arend and Jordan Grief (for Poehler’s Paper Kite). Kate Myers, the author of the source book, is a co-executive producer via Deadline.

Produced by Universal Television (part of Universal Studio Group), the Dig series is currently gearing up for production, according to Deadline. New cast member Geraldine Viswanathan has recently been seen in major films such as Marvel’s Thunderbolts and Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls, as well as You’re Cordially Invited and Oh Hi. She also co-starred on the TV side in Miracle Workers with Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi. Her professional representation includes WME, Entertainment 360, and Sloane Offer Weber Dern.
