Fans of Bodyguard and The Recruit prepare yourselves. Netflix recently announced a new action thriller series called The Night Agent and according to Deadline, it’s coming to the platform on March 23.
According to Deadline, the show was created by Shawn Ryan (S.W.A.T., Timeless) who also serves as the showrunner. The show, which is based on Matthew Quirk’s novel (Hour of the Assassin, Dead Man Switch), will have ten episodes and star Gabriel Basso (Super 8, Hillbilly Elegy) as Peter Sutherland. The main character is described as a low-level FBI agent who works in the basement of the White House, working an emergency hotline for American spies that never rings. Then a call comes in from a terrified civilian, Rose Larkin, played by Luciane Buchanan (The New Legends of Monkey, Sweet Tooth). Peter must protect Rose and work together to uncover a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office and threatens the country.
Other cast members include Hong Chau (The Menu, The Whale) as Diane Farr; Sarah Desjardins (Yellowjackets, Riverdale) plays Maddie Redfield; Fola Evans-Akingbolab (Ten Percent, Siren) stars as Chelsea Arrington; Eve Harlow (Titans, The 100) will be playing Ellen; Enrique Murciano (Step Up: High Water, Father of the Bride) as Ben Almora; Phoenix Raei (The Heights, Black Site) will be starring as Dale; and D.B. Woodside (Lucifer, 24) will play Erik Monks.
According to Deadline, when Ryan announced the show’s adaptation in late 2020, he discussed some of the best books he had read during the lockdown that year. Ryan included The Night Agent in the category of “Books I Read, Decided to Adapt for Television and May Have Already Finished Writing the Pilot Episode.” Seven months later, Netflix ordered the series adaptation of The Night Agent.
Other executive producers for the show include Seth Gordon (The Goldbergs, Atypical), Marney Hochman (S.W.A.T., Timeless), Julia Gunn (The Lost City, United We Fall), James Vanderbilt (American Dream/American Knightmare, Suspiria), William Sherak (The House with a Clock in Its Walls, Role Models), Paul Neinstein (Bed Rest, Scream), newcomer Nicole Tossou, and David Beaubaire (Fatherhood, Men in Black: International) will serve as ep’s alongside Ryan.
