According to Deadline, a new limited series starring Edgar Ramirez (Carlos, American Crime Story, The Undoing) as the lead role and main protagonist, entitled Florida Man, has released a teaser trailer and is set to release on April 13, 2023 on Netflix. The trailer was posted on Youtube earlier today on March 3 and showcases action, intensity, and regret all on the subject of returning to the crackhead and retirement complex infected state of Florida.
Florida Man, created and written by showrunner Donald Todd (Ugly Betty, This Is Us, Sleepy Hollow), follows Ramirez’s character, Mike Valentine, an ex-cop who is coerced to return to his home state of Florida in order to track down a Philadelphia gangster’s girlfriend who ran away from home. The supposedly easy job soon becomes a convoluted criminal case unearthing family secrets and interacting with the less than friendly locals.
The limited but Netflix-exclusive series is scheduled for eight episodes and has been described as “a wild odyssey into a sunny place for shady people in the spirit of Body Heat and Elmore Leonard’s Out of Sight.”
Florida Man will also feature secondary characters played by Otmara Marrero (Vandal, Clementine, Jackass Forever), Paul Schneider (Elizabethtown, Lars and the Real Girl, Bright Star), Lex Scott Davis (Superfly, The First Purge, Rebel), Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace, Lantana, Empire Records), Emory Cohen (Brooklyn, Detour, Sweetheart), Abbey Lee (Old, Lovecraft Country, Mad Max: Fury Road), Clark Gregg (The New Adventures of Old Christine, Choke, Agents of Shield), Isaiah Johnson (David Makes Man, Curb your Enthusiasm, Homegirls), and Lauren Buglioli (Claybourne Elder).
Alongside Todd, Jason Bateman (Arrested Development, Juno, Ozark) and Michael Costigan (Stoker, Ghost in a Shell, Prometheus) will serve as executive producers for Florida Man under Bateman’s production company Aggregate Films.
